IGP - 5/23/2010 - “On One Accord” - Discussion

Wow… We were going to discuss 2 Chr 5:13-14 during the Open Mic/Jam Session Anniversary celebration. However, God apparently wanted to have a discussion with us instead.  Sorry, no audio.  Hate to rub it in, but if you weren’t there… YOU MISSED IT.

This scripture is the key scripture for In God’s Pocket. The experience we had on May 23, 2010 (pentecostal Sunday as well as  IGP’s 1 year anniversary) demonstrated this verse.  I pray that the minstrels and the churches they represent have the same experiences in their weekly worship services.

(AMP) 2Ch 5:13  And when the trumpeters and singers were joined in unison, making one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and other instruments for song and praised the Lord, saying, For He is good, for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever, then the house of the Lord was filled with a cloud,
2Ch 5:14  So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

When this happens, as we found that night, God speaks directly to the people which makes human ministering unnecessary.
(AMP) 1Jn 2:27  But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him abides [permanently] in you; [so] then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must abide in (live in, never depart from) Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him], just as [His anointing] has taught you [to do].

IGP - 3/14/2010 - Discussion “Playing Skillfully”

On the 11th IGP, Pastor Comer of Life in Christ Ministries Int’l spoke to us regarding playing skillfully from the Bible and covered Biblical answers to many issues that minstrels (musicians and singers of God) have.

More will be added to this post in the way of scripture references and possibly notes from the Pastor.  If you have questions or comments, as always, you can add “your two cents” here.

IGP - 2/27/2010 - Discussion “IGP Survey”

It’s almost been a year. February makes the 10th IGP since we started up last May with 3 musicians (and that was hot too).  I need to put up clips of that.

I wanted to pause and ask everyone two questions. What do you get out of In God’s Pocket?  What would you like to see us do?

Weren’t there and want to add your two cents? Add to the discussion here

IGP - 1/17/2010 - Discussion “Offering”

January’s discussion was mainly regarding offering.  As musicians we often play music during this part of service.

What’s the purpose of music during offering?
How does God view offering our musical abilities as opposed to giving a tangible offering?
Do we often skip out on offering or our we tapped out after so many different services?

Hear the discussionPost your thoughts (note you have to do the calculation for your post to save).

IGP - 12/27/2009 - Discussion “Career Musician”

We had a lengthy discussion that included the topic of playing “outside of the church.” Unfortunately there is no audio regarding.  Please comment on this post (click on the title then reply below this text).

Some general questions:

  • Does God approve of christian musicians playing for non-gospel artists?
  • Does providing for our families and paying our tithes in church justify what type of career we choose?
  • (How) Can God use us in places not traditionally “for Christians” (secular bands, clubs, etc)?

IGP - 11/27/2009 - Discussion “Music Appreciation”

Going along with the Thanksgiving spirit, we discussed how musician’s today are “appreciated” in comparison with in the days of the Levitical tribes of the old testament.

IGP - 10/18/2009 Discussion

Starting with this IGP (the 6th IGP to date), we had an awesome discussion regarding the role we play today as it relates to the Levitical priesthood as described in 1 Chronicles 15:12-16.
